How popular is windows2000

While browsing b3ta I cam across a discussion about weather or not Windows2000 is the worlds most popular operating system

And here it is, read it, its quite funny+acurate.

tidy up

The brownhaze was looking a little messy after its recent facelift. I have now given it a bit of a tidy and tighten things up a bit.

Lots better in my option.

www.suprnova.com

As correctly pointed out in the comment to my last post by “captain knobrot” the same thing that happened to www.mininova.org happened to the late great http://www.suprnova.org/, the granddaddy of all the torrent tracker sites that was taken down some time ago (its back now as a news site).

It’s not nearly as pseudo professional as www.mininova.com, in my opinion. Have a look for yourself, just try not to sign up to it.

The great bit torrent swindle

It has just occurred to me to mention something that is both funny and worrying. www.mininova.com.

www.mininova.org is a fantastic bit torrent tracker site that facilitates the downloading of legal and illegal content for free. This must be pretty well known because some smart bugger has decided that they would register a very similar URL and stick on it what looks like an above board download service.

It says that using there system you can get lots of free files, and I’m sure you can, but you have to pay £15 a month for it.

This is a very clever swindle. Take something that is free, but legally dubious. Sell it for a nice mark up and cream off your profits (I would imagine that about £14.50 profit per person per month). I am going to guess that there is no mechanism for cancelling your account, that way loads of lazy people will just leave the £15 leaving there accounts monthly.

And the real elegance of this system is that no one is there right mind is going to complain to anyone who can do anything about it, because they where using it to download movies, music, software and porn that is essentially stolen.

I particularly love the way they have made the page look seudo official. They have used all those lovely hi-tech company graphics that make people feel as thought they are using an official service.

So, the message here is kids; use www.minnova.org not .com.

Listmainia

I have made myself a list on Amazon. It’s a list of movies that depict the use of computers very, very baldy. I am thinking about buying them just to have my own library of very, very bad computer movies.

Walking on fire

If you listen to 2-TEN FM in Reading then you may know that at the weekend there was a sponsored fire walk. The money was going to 2 children’s charities. Well, you know how much I care about children so I had to join in. Well, to be more acurate, my Bird sugested it and I said ok.

We got sponsored for over £100 each, for that we got 2 hours motivational speaking at the Holiday Inn by some bloke who looked as though he should have been a bouncer. After this we where sent out to the reasonably large crowd who had gathered to watch.

There where two fire lanes set up made up of burning wood, apparently hot enough to melt aluminium. Once they had got them hot enough we where sent across and I have to say, it was very pleasant. It was easier then walking on a hot beach.

Apparently the facts of the matter are:

a) wood (or coal) are poor conductors of heat i.e. they will radiate heat, but not transfer heat on contact very well)
b) You don’t keep you fool in the same place for very long
c) Any sweat or moisture on the soles of your feet will help

I have to say, it was a real buzz, I would defiantly do it again. To give you some idea what it was like:

This is a shot of two random people walking across the fire lanes

And this is a video of some other random people doing the same (needs quicktime or simiar). These where taken after I had done my walk, prior to that I had other things on my mind and was not thinking about taking photo’s

and here is the feature on teh 2-TEN FM website, I have checked and there are no pics of either me or my Bird in there. so thats good.

The unthinkable has happened

the brownhaze has been blocked by the Pru, now my most avid readers get a page telling them that my page is categorised as “personal” and that they should be wasting there time reading it, not to worry, I will soon get round that.

One really shouldnt laugh

True

Ronnie Barker

I am sad that Ronnie has gone. I was having a read of the dedications to him that have come out of the entertainment world. I particularly like this one:

"'I will always remember him for the many and various characters he portrayed,' said actor David Suchet, who once bought a house from Barker."

You can just imagine

"Ronnie was a great comic actor who will be sorely missed,' said Stuart Winter who once bought a second hand teapot from him on ebay. He goes on to say "package delivered quickly, a great ebayer A+++++"
